Iran's Diplomatic Dance: Denying Allegations and Calling for Peace
Presidential Denials and Assassination Claims
As Donald Trump prepares to retake the Oval Office, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has adamantly rejected claims that Iran plotted to assassinate the former US leader.
Despite an alleged plot to assassinate Trump in 2024, Pezeshkian stated, "We have never attempted this and we never will."
Calls for Peace and Nuclear Ambitions
Amidst tensions, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran's nuclear program remains peaceful, dismissing suggestions of seeking nuclear weaponry.
"We do not fear war, but we do not seek it," Pezeshkian said. "We hope that Trump will contribute to peace and not bloodshed."
The Iranian Perspective on Trump's Policies
The Iranian president expressed concern over Trump's previous tough stance towards Iran, including withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
"It was the other party that did not live up to its promises and obligations," Pezeshkian said, referring to Trump's administration.
Diplomatic Outlook
Despite the allegations and tensions, Pezeshkian stated that Iran is open to dialogue with the US.
"The problem we have is not in dialogue, but in the commitments that arise," he said. "We hope the European powers will remain serious about resuming nuclear negotiations."
Foreign Minister's Perspective
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi echoed the president's willingness to engage, reporting that talks with European powers indicate a readiness to discuss nuclear issues further.
